Fuel-Efficient Driving Training
Fuel-efficient driving helps businesses lower fuel consumption, save money on their running costs and reduce their carbon footprint. Here at Driver Hire Uxbridge, we offer a comprehensive half-day course designed to show drivers the basic principles of fuel-efficient driving (and the importance of this), which they can use in their day-to-day operations.
Boosting your fuel efficiency
Our fuel-efficient driving course lasts for three and a half hours, and covers a range of topics. It can be put towards a driver’s seven hours of training for the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) certification, and combined with any of the other courses listed on our training page. Here are some of the factors we will cover during the course:
- Why is fuel efficiency so important? We will help drivers understand the benefits of fuel-efficient driving to encourage them to practise it while out on the road. The typical HGV driver costs 4x their salary in fuel during a year, saving 15-20% of fuel consumption pays for over 50% of the driver salary costs.
- What to do before you set off: We’ll discuss factors such as condition of the HGV, tyres, engine and wind resistance and ensuring any unnecessary weight is removed from a vehicle before driving, as well as only starting the engine when you’re ready to set off and planning your route as efficiently as possible.
- What to do while you’re out driving: Our team will highlight the importance of driving smoothly to avoid heavy braking, cornering, unnecessary stopping and starting (which wastes fuel), as well as managing the use of features like air conditioning, heaters and headlights.
- What to do when you’re back at base: Parking in shady areas, ensuring headlights are turned off and removing any power-consuming electrical items (such as phone chargers that plug into the cigarette lighter) can all help to boost fuel efficiency.
