Health and Safety for Drivers
Following health and safety protocol is an essential part of a commercial driver’s day-to-day duty. From setting off and starting their shift to returning the vehicle to the depot, drivers need to be fully aware of the hazards and risks presented by the job, and how they can best deal with these to avoid damage to their own health and wellbeing, as well as that of others. What health and safety risks do drivers face?
Drivers are often required to pull in and out of loading bays, where dangerous machinery is operating and visibility is limited. They might also need to load and unload heavy items from the vehicle, either manually or using specialist machinery. If a driver is unwell or has a health condition that may flare up, this could affect their safety while out on the roads; likewise, if a vehicle has a fault that is not detected, this could endanger not only the life of the driver, but also the lives of pedestrians, passers-by and other road users.
Driver health and safety training from Driver Hire Uxbridge
Our health and safety for drivers module lasts for three and a half hours, and can be used in combination with another of our modules to make up a full day of training. This can be used toward the training requirements of the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). On this module, your drivers will learn about the following health and safety areas:
- Loading bay safety
- Vehicle checks
- Fitness to drive
- General onsite safety issues
